1886 - KANGAROO POINT HOTEL
The Hotel was built in 1886 and named the Kangaroo Point Hotel, it is one of the only seven, three story hotels in Queensland from that period.
1940 - RENAMED STORY BRIDGE HOTEL
After Story Bridge opened in 1940, the hotel was renamed The Story Bridge Hotel to honour the Bridge which connected Kangaroo Point to Fortitude Valley. entertainment.
1967 - PURCHASED BY THE DEERY FAMILY
The Deery family purchased the Hotel in 1967 and it soon became known as the ‘village pub’ as the suburb transformed from industrial to a popular residential location.
1978 - RESTORED TO ITS FORMER GLORY
Barrie Deery was inspired by a photo from 1912 to restore the hotel to its former glory. A process that took over a decade due to re tape and regulation.
1980 - THE BOMB SHELTER TRANSFORMED
The old WWII bomb shelter underwent further extensions and one of the most original and well- known pubs in town ‘The Bomb Shelter’. Home to quality live entertainment.
1994-HOME TO ICONIC EVENTS
Following a refurbishment, the Hotel was oficially reopened by the Lord Mayor, Cr. Jim Soorley. It then becamne home to some of Australia’s greatest special events
TODAY - REMAINING FAMILY OWNED AND OPERATED
Barrie’s son and daughter, Richard and Jane Deery, continue to manage the hotel, making Story Bridge Hotel one of the last remaining family owned and operated hotels in Brisbane! The Hotel continues to make its mark as one of Brisbane’s most iconic and beloved venues with our enviable reputation for fine food, extensive range of beers, quality wines and spirits.
